- A lawyer asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life
- Jesus tells a parable about a man going from Jerusalem to Jericho
- The man is attacked by robbers and left half dead
- A priest passes by on the other side
- A Levite passes by on the other side
- A Samaritan has compassion, binds his wounds, and cares for him
- The Samaritan brings him to an inn and pays for his care
- Jesus says to go and do likewise

33But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion, 34and came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
